Research Training Group 3064

The Research Training Group (RTG 3064), funded by the German Research Foundation, examines technologies of witnessing in contemporary media cultures and, against the backdrop of digital structural change, explores the ways in which practices and processes of witnessing are changing: Whether testimonial videos or digital image archives, forensic research or artistic testimonies, theater tribunals or contemporary witness „holograms“ – these recent phenomena are forming in the wake of changing technical-media conditions, aesthetic arrangements, transcultural framings as well as epistemic and ethical problems and require newly oriented research perspectives.

The interdisciplinary research into contemporary technologies of witnessing in the media, arts and cultural studies is currently being carried out at RTG 3064 by 10 doctoral candidates and, from 2028, by 20 doctoral candidates and one postdoc, supported and accompanied by 10 professors.
